Classic Arts & Crafts Pottery

In the 1990s, with the rise of the cubicle and mass-produced goods, Kevin Hicks revered a time when people made objects by hand. Hicks, a skilled potter with a business degree, imagined a modern artisan guild where collaboration could thrive. Through this collaboration, handmade products would show the hand of the maker and display a reverence for the natural world. This ethos is a throwback to the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 20th century. However, it seems as relevant today as it did 100 years ago. It is reflected in our Arts and Crafts pottery.

The Arts and Crafts era’s organic forms and solid design inspire our work. Therefore, we seek to make pottery similar in style to ceramic studios from this era. They include Grueby Faience Pottery, Marblehead Pottery, Mackintosh, Roseville, Rookwood, and Weller Pottery. These pieces are intended to be perfect decorative arts and crafts pottery accents for Bungalows, American Foursquares, as well as Mid-century homes. 

Just like antique Arts and Crafts pottery, our aesthetic above all is one where the hand of the maker is evident. Each piece can have its own style, but the pieces are unified by the process. It includes hand-throwing, sculpting, and finishing with our in-house designed glazes. We purposely lean away from technologies that remove the artists’ hands from the work. These include slip casting, using molds, ram pressing, and relying on computer-aided transfer methods.
