We’re delighted to share another story from our community of collectors. Today, we introduce Matthew Bohnsack, whose journey with Ephraim Pottery began in the early 2000s and exemplifies the enduring appeal of artist-crafted pieces.
Matthew’s connection to Ephraim Pottery grew from a deep appreciation of the Arts & Crafts movement. In his words: “I did a lot of reading about Arts and Crafts in the early 2000s. I really loved the style and the ethos. I was amazed to find Ephraim Pottery around 2004, and bought my first piece in 2006.” |
Over the years, Matthew’s tastes have evolved alongside his collection: “In the beginning, I was mostly interested in simple Grueby green vases, but I’ve grown to love brighter dripping colors and bolder floral themes. I’ve started to collect tiles, and Christmas ornaments may be a future pursuit.” |
When asked about his favorite piece, Matthew shares a thoughtful connection to the Blossoming Daffodil vase from 2006: “I like how it tells a story with different phases of life depicted on different sides of the vase.” |
Matthew’s collecting philosophy focuses on natural elements and color, seeking pieces that feature “flowers, greens, yellows, and blue.” |
For Matthew, Ephraim pottery has become more than just a collection—it’s a daily source of joy: “It is among the most beautiful art I know of. When I look up and see parts of the collection sitting there I feel very lucky and grateful to own so much handcrafted beauty.” |
When asked what he would tell others about collecting Ephraim pottery, Matthew emphasizes both its lasting appeal and transformative potential: “There’s so many interesting pieces that collecting can easily become a lifetime pursuit, and the pottery is so beautiful that even a small collection will enrich your life forever.” |

We’re grateful to Matthew for sharing his story and perspective on collecting. His journey reminds us of the special connection between handmade pieces and the homes they enhance. We’d love to hear your Ephraim story too. Feel free to share your experiences with us on our social media channels or via email. Thank you for being part of our artistic community! |
