Collecting Ephraim Pottery
At Ephraim, we’re part of a long tradition of collectible art pottery. Our pieces are naturally limited due to our handmade process, enhancing their collectibility. We uphold the tradition of marking our pottery and maintain transparency about production numbers to further this collectible nature.
Limited Editions
-Studio Collection designs are limited to a maximum of 500 pieces.
-Reserve Editions (seasonal collections, POT(tery) of the Week, Mug Club, and holiday numbered pieces) are created in even more limited numbers.
-Browse our Historical Archive Database to view our past creations.
Shop Marks
Ephraim Pottery marks the foot of each piece of pottery and the back of each tile to assure authenticity. New studio marks are introduced each year, allowing collectors to determine when the piece was made. In addition to the impressed studio mark, each piece is also marked with the impressed initials of the potter and the sculptor, as well as the fired-on initials of the glazer.
Take for example the foot of the vase pictured above. It was created in 2018. The large studio mark for Ephraim includes the roman numerals XVIII (18) to represent the year. This primary mark was used on all pieces created in 2018. The impressed mark with initials inside of a circle is the potter’s mark; this indicates who threw the form (in this example, KH = Kevin Hicks). The sculptor’s mark consists of the artist’s italicized initials impressed into the clay (LK = Laura Klein). The script initials in glaze represent the artist who glazed the piece (BH= Becky Hansen). This vase also bears the Experimental Pottery stamp—a stylized E in an oval.

Ephraim Elemental Tableware
Launched in 2019, Ephraim Elemental is our functional line of pottery and tableware. This collection embodies beauty in both form and function, handcrafted to enhance your daily rituals.
Craftsmanship and Materials
Ephraim Elemental pieces are handmade from high-fired stoneware clay, finished with our food-safe, watertight glazes. These unique glazes are designed and created in our studio’s glaze laboratory, ensuring both safety and aesthetics.
Design Philosophy
Modern, elegant forms serve as the canvas for rich, colorful glazes with a matte, stony texture. Inspired by the elemental materials of ceramics—fire, clay, and mineral oxides—we strive to create pieces that are fundamental to daily life and social gatherings. Our goal is to evoke joy through vibrant color and solid design.
