You set out on a foggy morning with a mission to see something new. As you hike up the mountain the secluded cascade rewards you with a beautiful scene. Two towering pines guard the well-kept secret waterfall and ancient stony bridge. Each vase is sculpted individually by hand to create a bas-relief “sketch” that possesses amazing detail. The Cascade Cabinet Vase is finished in a tonal green and grey palette.  Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. Because we lean away from technologies like molds, templates, and casts, each piece is wholly unique. Minor variations in size, decoration, color and finish are intrinsic to our pottery. We created the Centerpiece Ginkgo Bowl to be an upsized version of our popular, recently retired Ginkgo Branch Vase. This piece, with its arboreal motif and earthy colors, has a timeless appeal. The design wraps around the top to form the rim, while branches rise above creating a sculptural piece. The twining sculpted design combined with our flowing, blended glazes, means each of these pieces is truly an original work of art. Artist Anniversary Series
Influenced by Marblehead Pottery, Frank Lloyd Wright, Greene and Greene, and many more, this piece combines intricate, precise linework and a flowing, organic illustration of a chickadee amongst the blooming cherry blossoms. Standing out against the rich chestnut glaze, the pink accents of the cherry blossoms create a stunning contrast that encapsulates the beauty of the natural world. Created by Matthew Drees as a tribute to his years at Ephraim, the Chickadee Songbird Vase is truly indicative of his unending experimentation and search for inspiration. It is our tradition at Ephraim for artists to commemorate a milestone at the pottery with a special design. This year Matthew Drees celebrates this momentous milestone. Artist Anniversary Series pieces are available for only one year. Matthew's Chickadee Songbird Vase will retire on July 30th, 2025. Artist anniversaries signify much more to us than merely “loyal years” of coming to work. Artists at the studio exert a major influence on the ever-evolving art that we make. The aesthetic sensibilities and honed techniques of each of our members collectively define Ephraim’s art. It is a beautiful – and novel – model for an art pottery. This model means that Ephraim’s body of work would have been far different without Matthew's steady hand and honed glaze application skills. Individual sensibilities make our art eclectic and yet the way these ideas filter through others, make our pieces cohesively Ephraim.

Going back to ancient times, the Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Romans, all imparted symbolism to calla lily flowers. To this day, the showy blooms mark transitional events like weddings, anniversaries, and funerals. Here we commemorate the venerated calla lily on a small vase, in three glaze options—perfect as a gift for many meaningful occasions! The iris is a beloved early bloomer in the perennial garden. In Greek mythology, Iris is a golden winged messenger of the gods. As a link between heaven and earth, her symbol is the rainbow. As a flower, the iris is aptly named, boasting large, showy blooms that come in virtually every color of the rainbow. Here, a delicately sculpted iris sways in the gentle spring breeze. The Enchanted Iris Vase is offered in three vibrant glaze options. Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics.
