Our New Frond vase is a harmonious new friend to perfectly unify your collection. This vase celebrates spring’s earliest arrival—the fiddlehead—on a structured and traditional Arts and Crafts form. Inspired by the historic and iconic Grueby Faience Pottery’s fern-handled vases circa 1910, Ephraim artists revisited the fern and leaf theme in these small, rounded vases. This vase joins our traditional line of vases in four rich patinas. Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. Because we lean away from technologies like molds, templates, and casts, each piece is wholly unique. Minor variations in size, decoration, color and finish are intrinsic to our pottery. Just as the sun sets and night falls, a little bat swoops upward to form the edge of this sloping vase. The cutout and manipulated rim as well as the low relief, organic sculpture of the bat impart a great amount of movement and vitality into this cabinet vase. Yellow, Aqua, and Indigo blend together beneath a golden crackle to evoke an early night sky. This is a must-have design for the bat lovers among us.  Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. We designed the Oak Branch Bowl in the style of our popular, retired Gingko Branch and Pine Branch Vases. These three designs feature arboreal motifs that wrap around the rim, forming branch handles to create a sculptural piece. The twining design combined with our flowing, blended glazes, means each of these pieces is truly an original work of art. Do you ever wonder what lies at the bottom of the dark and mysterious sea? Octopuses, which evoke such supernatural wonder, are a favorite motif in the studio. In this impressive piece, a powerful octopus winds his tentacles around the narrow neck of the low-bellied vase. Ephraim artist, Laura Klein, sculpts each octopus individually, varying their pose and personality to marry the sculpture perfectly with the form. Handmade to order. The Orange Blossom Vase is a new motif for the studio. High relief sculpture and a tall form offered a perfect substrate to show off our rich Indigo glaze, punctuated with complementary Orange and White glazes. Since opening the Ephraim Pottery West Coast Gallery in 2012, we have become more familiar with the variety of California’s natural beauty, and local customers encouraged us to create a piece featuring their state flower, the California Poppy. Here, golden-edged orange poppies flutter in high relief on the side of a slim bottle glazed in aquamarine tones which evoke the Pacific Ocean. A peacock feather is the star of this highly refined, exacting vase that draws inspiration from Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau line work. It may look effortless, but refining this design took dozens of iterations and nearly a year of trial and error. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From the meticulously incised design to the hand-painted details, this piece truly requires a steady hand and expert glaze application skills. Offered in two stunning glaze options–Leaf Green and Cranberry. Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. This bridge, which has no beginning and no end, reminds us that it’s about the journey and not the destination. The Petite Journey Lantern is a companion piece to the Journey Lantern. We wonder what this little turtle ponders as he lazes away an idyllic summer day. Ephraim artist, Becky Hansen has an affinity for turtles, and so it is her glazing artistry that brings this vase to life. Our go-to turtle glazer, Becky, glazed many versions of this piece to develop the perfect color scheme that embodied the verisimilitude and pizazz she thought this little turtle deserved.    Handmade to order. Ephraim artists have spent the last year experimenting with electric lanterns and we are pleased to offer the Prairie Ginkgo Lantern in our new Studio Collection. A lid adorned with sculpted ginkgo leaves sits atop a narrow tapered form. The organic sculpting on the lid provides a nice counterpoint to the series of square window piercings and formal architecture of the lantern’s base. This lantern provides a soft glowing light—perfect for a night light or other mood lighting. Includes a small removable cord and bulb.
