In Costa Rica, bright blue blossoms hang from the trees near the beach. Inspired by these blooms and the myriad shades of blue in the sky and the ocean, we created this hand-sculpted vase with shades of periwinkle, aqua, and blue. Pura Vida! Handmade to order. Warmer weather and dusky skies beckon Wisconsin bats to begin their swooping ritual. These hypnotic creatures, descending from the trees and arching across the sky inspired this bat vase. Dramatic glazes and a delicately sculpted bat make this a moody, impactful piece. Handmade to order. Since opening the Ephraim Pottery West Coast Gallery in Cambria, California in 2012, we have become more familiar with the variety of California’s natural beauty. Local customers encouraged us to create pottery that features their state flower, the California Poppy. Here, golden-edged orange poppies in low relief sculpture are the focal point of a circular composition and vignetted by a hammered texture. The 4-inch tile is glazed in a cheerful Aqua glaze with Teal edges to evoke the colors of the Pacific Ocean. Handmade to order. Visual rhythm creates a ceramic melody in the Canon Vase. Here, five hand-carved tulips encircle a graceful, understated form. The piece is glazed in three different tonal color schemes–Chestnut, Crystalline Purple, and Cranberry and coordinates with designs from our musically-inspired Rhythm Line. The pieces in our Rhythm Line forego traditional sculptural elements in favor of streamlined forms, artistic abstractions, and incised, patterned black linework reminiscent of a musical staff. A clear, bright melody rings out in the crisp air. From my windowpane I spy a pair of cardinals–one brilliant red and the other muted, still beautiful–as they dart between the tree branches, a welcome sight! This lidded jar celebrates our favorite visitors, the masked and crested Northern Cardinals. Positioned opposingly, these male and female cardinals perch on branches with crimson berries. The rich Seaspray Blue and Leaf Green glazes evoke the atmosphere on a clear day and accentuate the vases’ intense red focal points. Handmade to order. You set out on a foggy morning with a mission to see something new. As you hike up the mountain the secluded cascade rewards you with a beautiful scene. Two towering pines guard the well-kept secret waterfall and ancient stony bridge. Each vase is sculpted individually by hand to create a bas-relief “sketch” that possesses amazing detail. We created the Centerpiece Ginkgo Bowl to be an upsized version of our popular, recently retired Ginkgo Branch Vase. This piece, with its arboreal motif and earthy colors, has a timeless appeal. The design wraps around the top to form the rim, while branches rise above creating a sculptural piece. The twining sculpted design combined with our flowing, blended glazes, means each of these pieces is truly an original work of art. Handmade to order. Floating above the green earth, these sweet, rosy blossoms resemble billowing clouds. Delicate and ephemeral, blown by the spring wind and rain, the sakura soon fall, carpeting the earth with fragrant "snow." The Lidded Fuchsia Jar follows up the limited-edition Fuchsia Vase from 2016 and the current Flowering Fuchsia Bottle. Bowing blossoms rest amidst sculpted leaves at the top of this sturdy form, finished beautifully in a vibrant contrast of rich pink and red tones on a deep chestnut green field. Handmade to order.
