The Grand New Frond Vase is a large version and a playful companion to the popular New Frond Vase from the 2016 Studio Collection. Like the original design, this vase celebrates spring’s earliest arrival—the fiddlehead—on a structured and traditional Arts and Crafts form - inspired by the historic and iconic Grueby Faience Pottery’s fern-handled vases - circa 1910. Grueby’s Garden Vase owes inspiration to the historic, late 19th century Grueby Faience Pottery, famous for symmetrical design, low relief leaves and flowers, and signature textured green glazes. The small seaside town of Cambria, California holds a special place in our hearts as it is home to one of our two art pottery galleries. We often travel to Cambria—south of Big Sur and the Monterey Peninsula—and over the past ten years have found bountiful inspiration from the area. The Hideout Tile’s secluded cabin amongst the Monterey pine forest and foothills reminds us of our California connection. Handmade to order. Sometimes the world’s smallest creatures deserve the most careful notice. Notice the bee’s delicate wings; notice the bee’s patterned body; notice the bee’s important pollinating role in the ecosystem. Here a plump honey bee perches near the rim of a small, rippled form. A honey-like glossy amber glaze spills over a soft yellow matte glaze, inviting you to admire the little bee as it tends its honey. Handmade to order.
