In this impressive piece, a powerful octopus winds his tentacles around the narrow neck of the low-bellied vase. We wonder what this little turtle ponders as he lazes away an idyllic summer day. Ephraim artist, Becky Hansen has an affinity for turtles, and so it is her glazing artistry that brings this vase to life. Our go-to turtle glazer, Becky, glazed many versions of this piece to develop the perfect color scheme that embodied the verisimilitude and pizazz she thought this little turtle deserved. A lone crow poses on one of three branch handles, overlooking a moody and mysterious vista, framed by draping lichen. This piece was inspired by Ephraim artists’ trip to the West Coast, where soaring Monterey pine trees with lichen—so different from fir trees here in Wisconsin—fascinated them.
