    In Costa Rica, bright blue blossoms hang from the trees near the beach.     Since opening the Ephraim Pottery West Coast Gallery in Cambria, California in 2012, we have become more familiar with the variety of California’s natural beauty. Local customers encouraged us to create pottery that features their state flower, the California Poppy. Here, golden-edged orange poppies in low relief sculpture are the focal point of a circular composition and vignetted by a hammered texture.     We created the Centerpiece Ginkgo Bowl to be an upsized version of our popular, recently retired Ginkgo Branch Vase. This piece, with its arboreal motif and earthy colors, has a timeless appeal.     It is easy to see why, in the language of flowers, the lily of the valley, one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, signifies the return of happiness.     In folklore, ravens often play the tricksters and here we have portrayed two mischievous and conspiring ravens on a thick tree branch that winds around this vase. Stretching from the bottom to the top of the vase, the branch is separated in the mid-section, enhancing the illusion of depth.
