Cambria, California is home to Ephraim’s only gallery outside of Wisconsin. Our artists have a special affinity for this small coastal town. Do you ever wonder what lies at the bottom of the dark and mysterious sea? Octopuses, which evoke such supernatural wonder, are a favorite motif in the studio. In this impressive piece, a powerful octopus winds his tentacles around the narrow neck of the low-bellied vase. Ephraim artist, Laura Klein, sculpts each octopus individually, varying their pose and personality to marry the sculpture perfectly with the form. Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. Because we lean away from technologies like molds, templates, and casts, each piece is wholly unique. Minor variations in size, decoration, color and finish are intrinsic to our pottery. Since we opened our West Coast Gallery in Cambria, California in 2012, we embraced natural beauty of California. Our California customers encouraged us to feature their state flower, the California Poppy and now we turn to this motif often as a source of inspiration. Here, golden-edged orange poppies encircle the top of a vase glazed in aquamarine tones evoking the Pacific Ocean. Handmade to order. The studio revisits our popular Craftsman Rose motif in this tall, elegant vase. Bold architecture and abstract, stylized roses anchor the top of the vase. The strong sculpture fades into soft curves at the bottom of the form, providing a nice counterbalance. Handmade to order. Our New Frond vase is a harmonious new friend to perfectly unify your collection. This vase celebrates spring’s earliest arrival—the fiddlehead—on a structured and traditional Arts and Crafts form. Inspired by the historic and iconic Grueby Faience Pottery’s fern-handled vases circa 1910, Ephraim artists revisited the fern and leaf theme in these small, rounded vases. This vase joins our traditional line of vases in four rich patinas. Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics. Just as the sun sets and night falls, a little bat swoops upward to form the edge of this sloping vase. The cutout and manipulated rim as well as the low relief, organic sculpture of the bat impart a great amount of movement and vitality into this cabinet vase. Yellow, Aqua, and Indigo blend together beneath a golden crackle to evoke an early night sky. This is a must-have design for the bat lovers among us.  Handmade to order. No two pieces of the same design look exactly alike, that’s part of the magic of handmade ceramics.
