The Pine Bough Pitcher is the 15th in our annual Winter Holiday Series Limited Editions. This year we are making only 85 pieces total between the cranberry and indigo berry glaze options. Our artists are hard at work creating these pitchers now so that they are ready for the holidays. The process begins with Kevin throwing the pitcher form. This piece is a lot of fun to throw given it’s curves and wide neck which is manipulated into a spout right on the wheel. Web WebHOL15Throw-5102800Web WebOnce the forms have dried to leather-hard, Kevin passes them to Laura and she adds the sculpture. Her embellishments include a bending branch handle, pine cones & needles and juniper fronds with berries. Her expert hands bring these elements together in a cohesive, flowing design.WebHOL15Sculpt-5393HOL15Sculpt-5386800 Web

The sculpted forms go off to the kilns for a bisque firing before they land in Jennifer’s hands to be glazed. Her detailed glaze application includes a blend of chestnut and satin yellow with a hint of sun around the spout. She applies chestnut to the foot and brushes crystalline purple up from the bottom for depth. An elaborate blend of browns, olive, pumpkin & chestnut cover the sculpture to define the natural elements. The berries are then glazed in cranberry or indigo as specified by the customer.
